The direct speech from the participant

Where did you stay (dormitory, rented room, hostel, other)?

I rented a room.

Were you provided with a scholarship for the mobility program? If so, to what percentage did the scholarship cover the minimum necessary living expenses?

Yes, the scholarship amount = 1100, minimum necessary living expenses = 600. The percentage of coverage = (1100/600) × 100% = 183.33%. The scholarship covered 183.33% of the minimum necessary living expenses, meaning it was almost twice as much as required.

Based on your experience, what should future mobility program participants pay attention to during preparation?

Some universities offer dormitories, but spaces are limited. If you choose private accommodation, book in advance to avoid high prices or fraud. Even if the program is in English, basic knowledge of the local language will help in everyday life. It’s also important to be open to the new cultural environment, as the feeling of isolation can become a challenge. The education system might differ, so it's good to learn about the teaching style, grading methods, and communication with professors. Most importantly, be flexible and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. This is an opportunity not only for academic growth but also for personal development!

What unexpected issues arose during your mobility?

The grading system was unclear at first, but over the course of the semester, I adapted.

Also, finding a common language with locals was very difficult because I was in a small Portuguese town where very few people knew English.

Briefly describe your expectations for the mobility program and whether they were fulfilled.

I wanted to try using English in everyday life and fully in my studies. My goal was also to make as many friends as possible from different countries and cultures, and to overcome my social anxiety when meeting new people. Now, I can confidently say that I achieved all the goals I set for myself.

– What educational and cultural activities did you participate in during your mobility?

I visited a farm where they grow berries for sale, and they explained the process from selecting the products to selling them in the store. I went on a tour with a wine tasting from the Dao region of Portugal. I visited a family-owned winery and participated in a wine tasting of the wines produced there, accompanied by Portuguese dishes prepared by a Michelin-starred Portuguese chef. I participated in the grape harvest at the agricultural department of Viseu Institute.

Share your most vivid impressions from the mobility program.

It was the best experience of my life. I became more confident, made many friends from all over the world, traveled a lot, and tried a lot of new things (food, drinks, hiking, surfing).

Would you like to participate in the mobility program again, and where would you go?

Yes, I would love to go to (Italy/Spain/Canada/USA/Greece).

Would you recommend participating in the mobility program?

YES
